After Killing More than 1,600 People This Drone Operator Called It Quits

droneFor nearly 5 years, Brandon Bryant served in the United States Air Force as part of a crew that piloted one of America's drones. During this time, it's estimated that he played a role in killing 1,626 people. But after logging thousands of hours of flight time, and giving the military some of the best years of his life, he decided that he'd had enough.

What caused this change of heart? Was it the grueling hours? The dreaming in infrared that comes from staring at a screen all day? The guilt of killing innocent people or the regret of helplessly watching American soldiers die from time to time? Bryant has been interviewed numerous times in recent years, and after reading them it's safe to assume that it probably wasn't just one reason, but a combination of factors that drove him away from the Air Force.

But what was his breaking point? What was the moment that tipped scales in his conscience, and led him away from military life? The answer might surprise you.
