A Quick and Dirty Guide to the Toxins in Your Home
It
seems like modern life has made it nearly impossible to escape the slew
of carcinogens that permeate our everyday existence. They're in our
food, water, air, and even the products we buy.
By themselves, no
single chemical would be very dangerous, because their minute quantity
would have little effect on our bodies. However, being exposed to so
many toxic substances can certainly be lethal in the long run, causing
cancer, birth defects, and developmental disorders
And
unfortunately, the number of chemicals that may be lurking in our homes
are too numerous to count. Most estimates put the number at around
50,000, of which only a small percentage
have ever been tested for safety. Future generations will look back on
this time period, and wonder how our bodies held up for so long under
this chemical onslaught.
Fortunately a little knowledge can go a
long way in preventing exposure to the toxins that we face everyday.
